Nonsense Poetry

Year 3 have been looking at nonsense poems today, including ‘The Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll.

We had a go at changing the passage below into nonsense verse before writing our own. We used techniques like changing letters, choosing ‘sounds like’ words and just making them up altogether.

Sitting, bored in registration,
I stared out of the classroom window,
Watching children walking into school,
Ready to start the day.

Mr Peters sat at his desk,
He ticked our names off one by one,
He called each name,
Then we stood quickly and went to class.

Our version:

Pilling, bored in namstration,
I star-gazed out of the dangleroom wibow,
Quatching childrian plobbing into hool,
Ready to bregin the day.

Mr Chumble-wumba dat at his kesk,
He picked our noses off one by one,
He called each dranglesome nabe,
Then we stad killy and wek to class.

What did you think?
Could you write a nonsense poem?
